YOU'RE ______!

the answer the the riddle from photo 54

what i wanted it to say (in no particular order):

"lunch!"
"fat!"
"mine!"
"tasty!"
"next!"

what it really said:
"fired".

we couldn't read the rest of the shirt even when she stood up. luckily for us, she raised her hands above her head to stretch and we got to see the second word. we saw "fired" and a big, big belly.

tahiti

so i'm back from tahiti. it was an amazing trip. one of those that leaves you feeling different and better and calm and happy and looking at the world and your life in a different way. good stuff all around.

anyway, we took a buttload of pictures. maybe over 600. thank you, costco's cheap 1GB SD memory cards.

since there's so many, i'm breaking the trip up into 3 sections. Papeete, Huahine, and BoraBora/Tahiti. kind of chonological. pretty good stuff.

so. without too much talking, here's the stuff. check it out. leave comments here for me. or point and laugh and be merry.

'three boards is pretty nuts.'

the entire point of this post could be lost easily. so pay attention.

i went to local motion, a surf shop made famous by the horrible folks of the real world hawaii. i went there to find ways to ship my surf boards to tahiti. (yes, i was supposed to blog about my upcoming fantasy trip to tahiti. i didn't. bite me.) so i was talking to the guy about bags and boxes and other ways to get boards from here to there. it turns out that, in his opinion, cardboard boxes are better than the $250 bags they sell. and the boxes are $12. go figure.

so i'm asking the guy how many board i can pack in a single box.

he says, "one: easy. two: no prob."

i ask, "how about three?"

he pauses, nods slowly and says, "...three boards is pretty nuts, you know."

and i don't mean to make him sound illiterate or uneducated. he was probably one of the better-spoken surfshop employees i've talked to. the point here is that with that one phrase (" three boards is pretty nuts"), he encompassed all the peace, thoughtfulness, and 'chill' that i feel that i've lost.

i've noticed that i speak faster, jumble my words because i speak faster, and breathe faster lately. and there's really no reason for it. i think that i've been too caught up with work. too concerned about my 'career'. maybe too cognizant of money.

i, once upon a time, was mainly concerned with when i surfed in the morning. did i surf at high-tide/low/rising? how was the surf? did i surf to my potential? more importantly than surf: was i happy with my day? did my surf session make up for whatever downfalls the rest of the day might bring. if i didn't surf, did i somehow keep the happiness alive in me, so that i could un-embarrassedly sing ms. aquilera's lyrics: "i am beautiful, no matter what they say. yes, words can't bring me-eee doooownnn." ?

i need to take my job less seriously. i need to play more. i need to be happier. i need to take myself less seriously.

so don't you bring me down today.

p.s. - the first result when you do a google image search for 'happy':

quotes i'd like to remember

blah. - eric lau

Do not keep company with people who speak of careers. Not only are such people uninteresting in themselves; they also have no interest in anything interesting. . . . Keep company with people who are interested in the world outside themselves. The one who never asks you what you are working on; who never inquires as to the success of your latest project; who never uses the word career as a noun -- he is your friend.
-Roger Rosenblatt

Education is the ability to listen to almost anything without losing your temper or your self-confidence. -Robert Frost

One of the symptoms of an approaching nervous breakdown is the belief that one's work is terribly important. -Bertrand Russell
